    Welcome to San José , the colourful capital of Costa Rica . On arrival at the Juan Santamaria airport  you will be greeted by your local tour manager ,then we proceed and check into our hotel .Evening is at leisure you are free to take a stroll and explore the vibrant city . Later dinner and overnight at the hotel .

     

    San José is located in the heart of a vast and fertile valley, the Meseta Central (Central Valley). Born in the 18th century, it has few testimonies of the colonial era. The capital of Costa Rica has a population of one million and is now one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in Central America.  Costa Rican cuisine is based on fresh ingredients and local products of excellent quality. We favor places or menus that allow you to discover the vegetables, meat and other fish of our tropics, whether in a popular, family restaurant or at the table of chefs who revisit local recipes. We communicate with restaurants to ensure that drinks are served without straws or at least with bamboo or recyclable straws.

  • 02 San José - Poas Volcano - San José ( City Tour )

    Today after breakfast we drive to the Poas volcano through morning mists and coffee plantations. Magnificent views of the Central Valley.

    Discovery of the Poas Volcano National Park Easy walk to the volcano observatory and its crater, one of the largest in the world. Observation of the fumaroles and the lagoon that fills the bottom of the crater. Multicoloured rocks and sulphur fumes will fill your senses. Access to the site also allows you to discover the flora of the altitude. The walk to the Boto Lagoon completes the tour. We also make a Coffee tasting stop . 

    The flanks of volcanoes are rich land suitable for agriculture. They are covered with coffee plantations, strawberries and pastures for cows. A stop will allow you to discover the complex world of coffee production, the black gold of Costa Rica... With an explanation in the coffee fields and a tasting of this pure Arabica drink. Typical lunch (e.g. casado: meat, chicken or fish with black beans, white rice, vegetables and salad) in a restaurant in the mountains.

    Later we return back  to San José for a guided walking tour through the center of the capital city of San Jose, the story of a nation emerging from the Spanish colony . As you will discover the façade of the magnificent National Theatre which is the pride of the Ticos as it is considered the main national monument by virtue of its architectural beauty, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the many parks that green the city centre and the Avenida Central, a large pedestrian street very popular with the josefinos because it has all kinds of shops. The central market (NB: closed on Sundays) will open the doors to a must-see place in the capital. Lulled by a Latin atmosphere, you will find fruits and vegetables, clothes, souvenirs, typical dishes while strolling along its many alleys.

    If time permits, we stop by the small Indigenous Museum and their fair trade shop. This shop allows more than 120 families to improve their living conditions. You will discover the different communities of the country and their cultural specialties and crafts, among others.

    Later in the evening dinner and overnight at the hotel .

  • 03 San José - Caribbean Jungle - Tortuguero

    Today we check out of the hotel as we have an early departure towards  the northern Caribbean coast by collective transfer (lodge bus). You leave the Central Valley crossing the green immensity of the Braulio Carrillo National Park. With its passes at 2000m and its mountains Barva (2906m) and Cacho Negro (2150m), it protects different ecosystems of tropical rainforest and tropical cloud forest, which you will be able to observe as you climb. Once past the Cordillera Central, you find yourself facing the Caribbean plain.

    We stop for a full breakfast along the way.

    Continue the road to the pier and take the boat back to Tortuguero, a small isolated village on the North Caribbean coast, wedged between a wide estuary and the Atlantic Ocean and accessible only by plane and boat.

    On arrival we check into our hotel and have lunch .Later we proceed to visit to the village of Tortuguero A short walk in the village to discover the school, the church... Free time to walk around, do some shopping...!

    Later in the evening we return to our hotel and have dinner . Overnight at the hotel . 

     

    Introducing the Sea Turtle Guide

    The guide will give you a presentation on sea turtles in Costa Rica, starting with the history of the village of Tortuguero and the initiation of the project for the protection of turtles and the creation of the organization STC (Sea Turtle Concervancy). He will provide you with explanations about the turtles' migrations, their biology and the different methods put in place to protect them, including the patrols that are organized every year in the country.

  • 04 Boat Safari & Tortuguero National Park

    Today after breakfast we proceed for the discovery of the Tortuguero National Park on a boat safari as we travel  by boat to visit the canals of the National Park (approx. 2 hours). Observation of the flora and fauna of this primary forest of 32,000 ha, which stretches as far as the eye can see. It is home to hundreds of species of plants - orchids, ferns, bromeliads - and hundred-year-old trees. In the heart of this splendid tropical setting, spectacle is everywhere and the incredibly sharp eyes of the captains will allow explorers to discover the barely hidden life that unfolds before them. Near the banks, caimans peacefully wait their turn to enter the scene while spider monkeys cheer up in the fruit-laden branches. Birds are the most active and fish in the canal. The tranquillity of the picture is not feigned, and the lazy people who live here in large numbers are the first to congratulate themselves on it. Later driving through the rainforest. In the gardens, the guide will introduce you to the incredible diversity of tropical plants and flowers.

    Buffet lunch in the afternoon, free time to enjoy the optional activities offered by the lodge (kayaking...) or to relax by the pool.

    Later in the evening dinner and overnight at the hotel.

  • 05 Tierra Del Fuego

    Today after breakfast we check out of the hotel and proceed to reach a Tierra del Fuego. Depart by boat before heading back to the main Caribbean route. Buffet lunch along the way. As we continue to the Sarapiqui area. This is the lowland region of northern Costa Rica. We are in the ecosystem of the Caribbean, humid jungles, wild rivers, and tropical plant and fruit crops.

    Later we have options for activities for the day : lunch/meeting with a palm heart farmer (tour in high demand, to be booked in advance)

    Meet Maria and her daughters who will make you taste their heart of palm, it will also be an opportunity to discover the process of development and picking of the palm tree. The owner Maria or one of her daughters will share with you their life experience between agriculture and sustainable tourism. You'll end your tour with a tasting of delicious fresh hearts of palm. Lunch of specialties on site: menu: "ceviche" of hearts of palm; lasagna of hearts of palm with vegetables and salad; fruit and homemade cake).

    There you will be presented the different stages of traditional cocoa production, from the plant to the chocolate drink or the chocolate bar. Presentation of the different varieties and the process of transforming cocoa into chocolate (picking, fermentation and drying). Tasting of organic chocolate and related products.

    Continue to the northern plain, rich in tropical fruit and citrus fruit plantations with the perfect cone of the Arenal volcano rising in the background. The lush tropical vegetation that surrounds the colossus, the warm waters that escape from it and the magnificent lake that spreads out at its feet make it one of the most spectacular sites in the country.

  • 06 Suspension Bridges - Meeting - Arenal

    Today after breakfast we proceed for a walk on the suspension bridges of Arenal , On a route, you will cross the rainforest by paths connected by 8 fixed bridges and 6 suspension bridges. The trails have been designed to be accessible to everyone. Bridges are high-tech metal structures that provide all the necessary safety. The succession of trails and bridges allows you to appreciate the flora of this tropical rainforest from a different perspective, from the roots to the canopy.

    Later we go for a Eco Farm Tour, Trapiche Tour & Tortilla Class

    Meet the Gonzalez family, a home of committed farmers who have been practicing organic farming for more than 40 years. Under the Troja, a traditional place of life and discussion, you will learn all about sugar cane and the tool formerly used for its processing: the trapiche, before tasting all the flavors of sugar cane: the fresh fruit, its juice and alcohol, the artisanal guaro, a favorite of the ticos. Continuing the tour, you will pass through plantations of plants and vegetables managed according to a sustainable organic production method and discover some emblematic legends of Costa Rica. All this in an enchanting natural setting and accompanied by the owners of the farm who will not fail to make you taste the coffee produced on the farm after welcoming you for an introductory course in homemade tortillas!

    Traditional lunch (example of a menu: Costa Rican "olla de carne" or "pot-au-feu" with tropical vegetables: plantain, cassava, macabo, etc.) and beef) on site, during the excursion. A short guided tour of the village of La Fortuna, an opportunity to learn more about this famous village and its volcano! Free time to do some shopping or enjoy the hotel's facilities.

  • 07 Arenal - Guanacaste Region - Rincón De La Vieja

    Today after breakfast we  check out of our hotel and we can choose from the following activities for the day :

    Optional: discovery of the Arenal Volcano National Park (NB: with your English-speaking guide) Walk on the trails of the National Park and on the ancient lava flows of this volcano with a painful recent history: in 1968, after 500 years of inactivity and 10 hours of intense seismic activity, the Arenal experienced 3 days of explosive eruption, devastating the small village of Tabacon, 12 square kilometers of forest and killing more than 70 people. As you approach the volcano, you can easily make out the traces of past eruptions whose lava flows made their way to the base of the colossus, consuming everything in their path. During the walk, your guide will comment on the history of this giant stratovolcano and teach you about the biological riches of the nature that surrounds it.

    Optional: meeting with the Malekus indigenous community (NB: with your English-speaking guide // please note that guests will not be able to take the road that borders Lake Arenal // includes lunch)

    Visit to the Maleku community of San Rafael de Guatuso. Welcome by the cultural leader of the community who will give you explanations about the way of life of this indigenous people, of whom only a few individuals remain, as well as their struggle between modernity and traditions to preserve their culture through their language, their history, their knowledge... Then we will move on to a craft workshop where we will make calabash engravings that you will take with you as a souvenir. This will be an opportunity to find out how it was used at the time. Then, a short walk to discover the medicinal plants and the use that the natives make of them (for example bag making...). Finally, you will try your hand at archery, an ancestral practice for hunting small animals and birds, and then the family will expose the life of their ancestors through a play. Traditional lunch during the excursion (grilled fish served in leaves, accompanied by cassava, rice, vegetables, and fruit for dessert). You will also have the opportunity to buy beautiful objects directly from the hands of the craftsman. This will not only allow you to acquire authentic indigenous handicrafts, but also to collaborate in the preservation of the Maleku culture and tradition.

    Departure to Rincon de la Vieja. After the dam that created the largest lake in the country, flooding the villages of Arenal and Tronadora, the jungle retains a vitality and density typical of the Caribbean. It is possible to meet coatis, monkeys, toucans, and others... Along the way, there are splendid views of the volcano bordered by the jungle and the lake. We are in an area of high winds where the best specialists come to challenge each other to wind surf. On the hills, wind turbines provide some natural energy.

    Departure for the discovery of the central region of Guanacaste: a cattle ranching area with landscapes of pampas and savannah. Cowboy and ranchero atmosphere. The population here is much more mixed, we are on the land of the descendants of the Chorotegas. The road now reaches the Inter-American Highway, the legendary highway that connects all of America, from Alaska to Chile. Lunch along the way.

  • 08 Rincón De La Vieja Volcano National Park

    Today after breakfast we proceed for the discovery of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park (NB: park closed on Mondays) . Take a two-hour walk, on a relatively easy route in the "Las Pailas" sector. Discover the tropical dry forest, its mud cauldrons, fumaroles and gigantic trees. Many trees are parasitized by Ficus Matapalo, which grow around their victim until they overtake and suffocate it. As a result, the trees are often doubly gigantic. This forest is crisscrossed by streams and veins of burning gases that have created "cauldrons" of boiling sludge. You will feel the earth alive at your feet!

    After lunch. , free time in the  afternoon to relax, enjoy the hotel's thermal baths and mud baths or do an optional activity from the lodge.

    Later in the evening dinner and overnight at the hotel .
